Disability Awareness Week

12/18/03 We were invited back by Fuller Elementary School to bring our doggies for "show and tell" during their Disability Awareness Week presentation to a third grade class. Today, since the children were older and seated at their desks, we were able to let Marco and Toes off leash, so they could visit.

Here are some pictures taken at today's class.  Only one child's face is shown, with permission, the others are blocked by heart stamps.  We had a great time and so did Toes and Marco.  Toes demonstrated some of her talents in obedience, using touch commands (Toes is blind and deaf).  Marco (also blind and deaf), however, enjoyed doing what he likes best...meeting all the children.  As Toes showed the class what she can do, Marco "visited" everyone at their desk.  Enjoy!

If you read no other book in your lifetime, you MUST read this book!  Although it is a "children's book", it will definitely be enjoyed by adults as well.  Pete's story is about a blind and deaf (Lethal White) Australian Shepherd (although 9 years ago everyone thought Pete was a Dalmatian) from Chelsea's (Pete's canine sister) point of view.  Please check out the site and order the book...what a great Christmas present...one that makes you laugh, brings tears to your eyes, and most importantly, teaches about believing in yourself when others don't.  Thank you Linda, for teaching us all a little about life.  Just click on the logo above...enjoy!
