Adoptions (page 5)
Shanna ADOPTED!!! 10/19/02
Shanna is a sweet, loving Aussie/English Setter mix (approximately 2 years old and mostly the gentle, laidback English Setter personality!) who prefers to be an only child. She would rather not share her human's attention with other canine family members (unless she absolutely has to) and will definitely give chase to cats. She is up-to-date on shots, spayed and waiting to be part of your family. Shanna loves going for walks and rides in the car/truck. She is crate trained and housebroken through a doggie door and has no problem being left alone while you are gone. Shanna does not get on furniture, nor does she ever jump up on you... and will sit and patiently wait as she gives you her paw to get petted. If it sounds as though she is the "perfect" dog...that is because that's exactly what she is. Shanna is content to lay at your feet, sleep on the floor at your bed and simply lay down behind your chair at the dinner table. Her manners for a human-canine relationship are impeccable
The pictures above show Shanna and her foster-mom Mary doing some one-on-one contact that Shanna thrives on. She is gentle and sweet and only asks for some hugs every now and then. She is not pushy or demanding...only patient and loving!

ADOPTED 08/18/02
Misty is an 8-week-old (birth date 05/28/02) Lethal White Aussie, who was sold by a local breeder. The original buyer passed her on to someone else who then placed an ad in the paper to sell her, continuously reducing the price. A very alert and caring person thought this was unusual and responded to the ad. The seller said that if no one took her, she would be sent to the pound because the seller was going out of town. Misty is almost completely deaf (she can hear very loud noises at close range) and partially blind. Misty also has a natural bob tail.
Misty is currently in foster care (with the wonderful family that saved her). She is being potty trained (and doing great), socialized and learning "touch" commands. She goes outside through a doggie door, gets along great with other dogs and kids and loves to play. Misty has had her first booster shot and will be spayed and up-to-date on all shots before adoption.
CHLOE (click on pic for enlargement)
ADOPTED!!! 08/10/02
Chloe went to a wonderful family consisting of a Border Collie/Heeler mix, Callie (pictured above) and also Maggie, a lethal that could not spend much time out in the sun due to sensitivity (hopefully, we'll get pics of her soon). Chloe's Mom & Dad have much experience with Lethals and will give her the best care possible. We thank you for giving Chloe a great second chance at a real life filled with love and care! By the way, after observing Chloe, we feel she is no older than 6 months.
Check out our "See Me Now" page for more pics!
Chloe is approximately 10-months-old and she's a "Lethal White" Red Merle Aussie. She appears to be quite deaf, but may hear some high pitched sounds and doesn't seem to have any vision impairments. Chloe was found as a stray at White Mountain Humane Society (a kill facility) and they contacted us for help to find her a new home. She received her booster shots there and was sent to Arizona Humane Society to be spayed (thank you, AHS). Before adoption, she will also receive a rabies shot.
Bailey is a 18-month-old Blue Merle female who was dropped off at the pound because her family was moving and didn't want to take her. When we went to the pound to see her she was so scared the only thing she could do was submissively pee (but we could see beyond that). We took her to the Arizona Animal Welfare League where she received lots of love and attention and tons of socialization. After posting her on our website, she was adopted today by a wonderful family who has adopted from us before and also fostered several wonderful Aussies for us. Bailey met with Emma (a wonderful, but exuberant Aussie pup) and they got along great. She made it home safely and has met the rest of the crew; Gus (an old, but loveable Golden Retriever), AJ (a "working" Aussie), Odie (a bold little Yorkie that doesn't know how small he is) and the 3 resident cats (who Bailey seems to want nothing to do with). Bailey, you couldn't be in a better home! Stayed tuned for pics and updates.
SPIRIT ADOPTED 05/19/02
Spirit, a Blue Merle (Lethal White), is approximately 1-year-old and an absolute sweetheart. She has joined the "aussielads" family and is doing quite well. She doesn't appear to have ANY vision/hearing impairments and enjoys playing with the aussielads. She is housebroken and crate trained. Spirit was a little underweight but has filled out nicely. She has tons of energy and LOVES human attention, though she does get a little over-excited when playing with the other dogs. Since she is still very much puppy, toes are one of her favorite things to nibble on. Spirit does appear at this time to be a submissive female. Spirit is spayed and up-to-date on all her shots.
Trigger has crossed over the
Rainbow Bridge
Trigger (a Lethal White) was brought in to a private Aussie Rescue (Melissa Zobell in Utah) because his time was up at the shelter. He was very thin and matted. He has obviously seen some abuse and is still touchy about certain things. Melissa had Trigger neutered and soon his scrotum swelled to the size of a cantaloupe. A second surgery was schedule to completely remove his scrotum and the surrounding tissue. He has now been diagnosed as having Hemophilia (a bleeding disorder). He is great with kids and loves to play with other dogs, especially Laddie and Cody. Trigger likes to harass the cats, but they are getting used to it. He is now a permanent part of the Zobell family
DOLCI (BREEZY) ADOPTED 04/05/02
10/14/02
Hey check it out...I got my own
website!!!
Also see Dolci on stage at the Mutt
Show.
04/09/02 Dolci (Breezy) is now living in Tucson with her new family (pictured above). Below is an e-mail update that we are so proud to share because finding the right home is our most important goal...and it's appears that we've succeeded in doing that... thanks to Caitlin and Terry (and Blue).
Hi Cyndi and
everyone --
It's hard to believe it's been only 3 days since we brought Breezy home from
Lorraine's house ... and what a whirlwind the
trip was, with Blue and 3 adults in the car, all
trying to get a glimpse of the new girl while keeping
an eye on the road. Breezy slept on my lap all the way home ... except for
when she was overcome with the desire to chew the gear shift!
I think we're going to call her Dolci, short for Dolcezza - which means
"sweetness" in Italian. She is the sweetest puppy I know, so it fits!
I've got half a roll of film left, so as soon as I get
it developed I'll send copies (digital).
Her first morning, we all got up about 5 (her preference...) and spent a few
hours working the perimeter of the front yard. We'd thought her "place"
would be the back yard, but we quickly discovered that the thousands of
chinaberries on the ground were way too tempting for her. In any case,
the front yard has grass, which she loves. It was hard
to see her bumping into the
walls and the gate, but she quickly figured out the route, and now she
never bumps into anything ... except Blue (who
grudgingly lets herself get tripped over).
Today I gave her a rawhide bone, which she carried around like a badge of
honor for all the neighborhood to see ... before promptly burying it next
to a patch of aloe. She checks on it now and then, but
hasn't dug it up yet. She's also taken up a
particularly funny habit - Blue has always been fond
of rocks rather than toys ("Throw the rock! Throw the rock! Come on,
throw the rock!"). Today, while we were trying to
interest Dolci in a new ball, she instead went and got
the biggest rock she could find and sat with it for
most of the afternoon! Maybe it's an Aussie thing...
I think she may have some hearing, maybe at higher decibels (she startled
once when Blue barked) and also some vision, at least light sensitivity
(she plays in sunbeams) ... but training will still be
a challenge. Everything I
know about dog training is not really going to fit. Nonetheless, we've
worked out a bit of Morse code already. If one of us taps a piece of
flagstone with a glass bottle, she sits on the ground and feels the
vibration ... then wags her tail, barks a bit, lunges forward ... and if
she can trace it to us, she gets a liver treat. Most
of the time she wins.
As for the cat,
last night she really surprised me. I was sitting on the bed
next to a sleeping pup, and the cat (Campari) came in for the first time
since Friday. She walked around the room for about 20 minutes, scoping
out the situation while I acted like nothing was
unusual. Finally, she must have decided that whatever
that strange creature was, it wasn't worth giving up
her spot in the bed for ... so she jumped up and sat on the other side of
me, as if to remind me that she was there first. I don't know if they'll
be buddies or not, but I'm so glad the cat is willing
to at least share a room!
That's it for now ... it's been a busy weekend of muddy paws, puppy laundry,
trips to PetSmart, early rising, covering the slats in the porch rail,
removing lawn hazards, looking for film, taking pictures ....
you know, puppyhood!
Thank you SOOOO MUCH for doing what you do to give these pups a chance.
Dolci is a special dog in many ways, and I'm so pleased to have the
opportunity to get to know her.
I'll be in touch soon! Feel free to forward this message.
Take care!
Caitlin
05/03/02 New pics of Dolci and update
Hi Cyndi and Lorraine -
At long last, here are a few of Dolci's pictures from her first roll of
film! She's such an amazing dog. As you can see, she loves her toys! We
just got her a hedgehog and now that one's her
favorite. The rest are hidden in various parts of the
yard, buried under a dusting of dirt.
We took Dolci to puppy class this past weekend, and she did great. She
rolled around with the other pups and impressed the instructors
immensely. We've taken her on walks around the
neighborhood, and she just charges along the sidewalk,
totally unafraid of the unfamiliar environment. After she
completes her last round of shots we'll take her to the dog park and let
her run around with the other dogs. She's such a
social creature!
We just adore this dog ... can't believe she's only been with us for a
month. Thanks again for helping Dolci to be such a loving and
well-adjusted pup!
I hope both your dog families are doing well!
Caitlin, Teresa and Dolci
Check out some pics of Breezy visiting Dimmer and Kandoo.
Breezy is an approximately 9-week-old Lethal White (Blue Merle) Australian Shepherd. She was a stray who was found outside someone's residence crying and was taken to the White Mountain Humane Society in Lakeside, AZ (They were kind enough to transport her to us). She does have sight/hearing impairments. Breezy was hungry when found, but she is not skinny or unhealthy looking. She has a beautiful fluffy coat and her temperament is wonderful. She is friendly and loves to be cuddled. She does not startle when approached. Breezy has received her first set of shots and has been spayed.
04/03/02 It is our determination, due to her disabilities, that Breezy would do best in a home with another friendly dog to help her find her way around and with older or no children.
PRAIRIE ADOPTED 03/23/02
Prairie went to her new home today where she'll have the luxury of being an only dog and 2 older children who will keep her busy. Will post updates.
Prairie is an absolute sweetheart, but since she loves to be the "center of attention", we feel she would do best in a home with no other dogs. She also tends to play a little rough, so a home with older children (ones she can't "knock" down) would be perfect.
Prairie is a 1-year-old spayed female Blue Merle Australian Shepherd. She is extremely affectionate with people and demands her share of attention. She is a vocal dog and will grunt, groan and bark to communicate her needs to you. She loves to run and her speed and agility are quite impressive. She is friendly with other dogs, but is bossy, demanding and confident in her interactions. She has completely ignored cats when introduced.
