Ozzie

3-27-08  Sometime during the night of Monday 3/24/08, we lost a precious baby who was adopted  4 years ago.  Ozzie was very special to all of us and he will be missed dearly.

Some very sad news…..my Ozzie died in his sleep Monday night.  I got up in the morning and turned the shower on and there were only 4 dogs in the bathroom.  I didn't have my glasses on but could see Ozzie on the bed.  Thought he was just sleeping in but he was gone.  Peaceful, just laying on his side on the bed just below where I sleep.  I think maybe something was going on inside of him that we didn't know about.  He had his first seizure ever on 2/10/08.  I had him on some meds, an antibiotic and some other things for 30 days and he just finished those up this past weekend and I was going to take him to the doctor on Saturday for his blood test.  I am devastated with his loss.  He was such a special angel in my life and has a very big part of my heart with him in Heaven.  It will truly take me a long time to recover from losing him.  I wasn't at work yesterday but I am here today physically, but mentally I am in the fog.

UPDATE 2/8/04 Some new pics of Ozzie hanging out at his foster home.  He now goes in and out of the doggie door as though he's done it all his life :-)  He is such a sweetheart and a "cool" dog!

Ozzie is doing great at his new foster home.  He gets along with all the other dogs, and the cats, too.  Here are a few pics of Ozzie meeting his new foster mom.

UPDATE 1/7/04 Ozzie will finally be going into foster care on Saturday.  We went to visit him today and here are some new pictures of a very socialized, happy, loving dog.  The entire staff at Power Road Animal Hospital worked endlessly to make sure that Ozzie's stay with them was one filled with love and adventure.  He is a totally different dog as shown in the pictures we originally took when they first began to care for him. (see the pics at bottom of page).  Please read his story as it first appeared, but make sure to check back again for updates after we've had a chance to evaluate him further while in foster care.  Ozzie has since been neutered and his eye condition has been cleared up.  All he needs now, is a loving family to call his own.  Here are some new pictures taken of a very happy, playful Ozzie (playing with Lorraine (the human) in the picture).

This is Ozzie and he really needs a loving family to call his own.  He appears to be a Lethal White (nearly blind) mixed with Rhodesian Ridgeback and maybe a Catahoula thrown in.  He is about 1 year old and had been with his owner since 5 weeks of age.  His owner lived in a trailer with no fenced yard, so each day, he was chained outside to a tree.  He has been tormented by kids who threw rocks at him just for fun.  He has also been picked on by some of the neighboring dogs.  Ozzie was brought to Power Road Animal Hospital to be put to sleep because his owner thought he had been poisoned.  He was vomiting and had bloody diarrhea and was filled with ticks and he's as skinny as can be.  The great staff at Power Road thought that Ozzie deserved a chance, so his owner relinquished him to them instead of having him put down.  Ozzie has been tested for almost everything (good results) and he is on the road to recovery.  They believe that he has about 10% vision, but hears just fine.  The staff has been working with him to help him regain trust in humans, and it seems to be working.  We evaluated him and he slowly came up and gave kisses.  He really is a sweet boy that deserve a chance at a good life.  We observed that he may have a bad case of Uveitis in one eye, as well as an injury to this other.

Power Road Animal Hospital will have him seen by an ophthalmologist at the eye clinic for a thorough exam and diagnosis.  He will continue to be treated at Power Road Animal Hospital, and when well enough, he will be neutered.  During his stay, the staff will be helping to evaluate and socialize him further.
