6/30/04 update: Well, Skye has had his grooming for a few days now and my does he look handsome. He feels soft as a downy chick and holds his head up so much higher. His coat is even softer than any of the puppies I have ever had. He can now almost look you in the eye without being shy or scared. While he is still very skittish, he definitely is coming out of his shell, one baby step at a time.  To date, he has mastered crate training and is now comfortable enough to ask to go out for a potty break, even if it means going around several cats to get to the door. He has no issues at all with cats and is very comfortable around them. As sweet and gentle of a disposition that this young man has, he would make a great companion for anyone. His foster mom even indicated that a retired couple might be ideal, since he likes to stay close to his human where ever they may go.  The best news....he does indeed hear. I still think that it is limited but it sure doesn't slow him down, neither does his sight.  Enjoy the pics....he would make any family a wonderful sweet companion.

6/28/04 update: Skye is doing really really well!  He's getting over some of his skittishness, and coming over to be petted and loved on more - which we are more then happy to do!  He's had a lot of new experiences this week.  He learned how to go up and down the stairs - he spent a whole day practicing to make sure he could go as fast as his foster sister and brother.  He's making friends with the kitties. Abby and Jack are BIG fans and often exchange nose touches and kisses at some point during the day.  Skye had his first trip to the bark park on Friday night.  He was *SO* excited.  He sniffed, ran, sniffed, and ran - he seems to even be a bit more social there.  Even to the point where he let a nice girl pet him.  While he was running around at the bark park, he would make sure to come and 'check-in' with me to see if I was still there.   He's getting in and out of the car very well, though he does like to ride shotgun and have the air conditioner on him.   He went hiking for the first time on Sunday morning and had a blast.  He stays right beside you, unless he sees his foster sister up ahead - then he tried to move up to her.  However, soon as he feels a tug on his leash, he comes right back to the left side.    He's looking very handsome after being groomed this week, and everyone who's seen him is just smitten.

6/21/04 Skye is a Blue Merle Lethal White male, approximately 6 years old.  He is hearing/vision impaired and was rescued from the Norco Animal Control Shelter in Norco, CA.  Skye was previously adopted out from the Norco shelter, but when his new family took him to their vet, the vet told them that he was not a good choice for children and cats.  Without ever giving Skye a chance, he was immediately returned to the shelter.  Upon his return, shelter workers observed that he had no interest in cats whatsoever*.  Skye is neutered and after his vet visit tomorrow, he will be de-wormed and current on vaccinations, including rabies.  Skye's time was up and was pulled from the shelter by one of our wonderful California contacts, Valerie.  After spending a few days with Valerie, Laura delivered Skye to Kelly (Aussielads partner) and son, Klay, in Blythe, CA for the trip home to AZ.  Kelly then handed Skye over to Paula (Aussielads partner) who safely delivered him to his destination...his foster home.

Skye's coat is matted badly and will be scheduled for a visit with the groomer in the very near future.  He is currently in foster care with other doggies and gets along fine with them.  *Skye is also sharing his home with quite a few cats and shows absolutely no interested in them.  Skye enjoys riding in a car and is an excellent passenger.

Here are some pics of Skye at his AZ foster home, getting to know the resident doggies:

While Skye is in foster care, he will be further evaluated, making his chances of finding a new, forever home greatly enhanced.
