Here are some pictures of Spirit with her new mom, Nancy. As you can see, Spirit LOVES belly rubs! When Mom took that hand away, Spirit reminded her that she was already busy doing something...giving her a belly rub! Guess Mom will have to learn NOT to talk with her hands :-) Spirit will be Nancy's best friend and she won't ever have to compete for the individual attention she loves (and deserves) again. She also now has a huge yard to run and play in. The first night in her new home went well. After she explored everything, she settled into bed with Mom for the night. Of course, Mom woke early this morning with Spirit on top of her, letting her know it was time to play. A brand new day...and a brand new adventure! Stayed tuned for updates.
Spirit's Story
Spirit came to us from the Arizona Animal Welfare League (because she was not doing well in a kennel environment) in March of 2002 at the age of 10 months old. By May, we had fallen in love with her and adopted her as our own. By October, we realized that she needed much more than we could provide, energy-wise. She is certainly a high energy Aussie who truly enjoys being busy. We placed her in a home with a great friend who was Aussie-savvy and could provide more of an energetic environment for her, as well as a young Aussie to play with. On June 2, 2003, Spirit came back to live with us. It was very difficult for Tina to bring her back, but it was for her own good. While Spirit loves to play with other dogs, she can be quite persistent. She and Boomer were best friends for 8 months, but he was "coming of age" and began to dominate Spirit. While she has an easy going personality, she will not back down when confronted and this caused her to obtain a few injuries (nothing serious). The episodes were escalating and we thought it best that she return to us for the sake of all involved.
Spirit, a Blue Merle (Lethal White), is approximately 2 years old and an absolute sweetheart, who doesn't appear to have ANY vision/hearing impairments. Her eyes appear to be "starburst" and when approached from above, she does get somewhat startled. Spirit has a natural bobbed tail. She is housebroken and crate trained, spayed, up-to-date on all her shots and microchipped. She has tons of energy, LOVES her human's attention and has been learning to swim. She does have a tendency to get a little over-excited when playing with other dogs. Spirit would do best in a home with no other pets or with another friendly (non-dominant) dog of her energy level and with a family who is quite familiar with the intelligence of an Aussie and one who will do things with her on a constant basis. Spirit is a highly intelligent Aussie who can figure things out on her own! She is NOT a dog for a first time owner! Spirit is a little reserved with strangers, but once she knows you, will give endless kisses. She absolutely LOVES puppies and will gently entertain them for hours.
