Tinkerbelle & Toby

12/12/03 Update:  Tinkerbelle has gone back home to her original "rescuer" and Toby has finally made it to Phoenix, AZ where he is in foster care with Aussielads.

Tinkerbelle (first 3 pics) and Toby (next 2 pics) are (Red Merle) "Lethal White" Aussie/Rottie mixes.  Their mom, Dixie (Aussie/Rottie mix) came from the All Western Stables at South Mountain.  The owner of the stables owned Dixie.  She had several litters of puppies before this last litter, where these pups came from.  They were born the end of February, 2003.  The "owner" simply turned over Dixie and her pups to a very caring family.

Tinkerbelle can see a little and possibly hear a little.  She is housebroken, spayed, playful, a climber, very bouncy, happy and instigates rough-housing with her brother, Toby (sounds like a typical Aussie to me).  Toby is blind, born without eyes, and is deaf.  He is housebroken and neutered.  He is very good by himself.  They have had no other training.

Their family would like to keep them until homes are found, but they are getting too much for them.  The woman was thrown from a horse while working at All Western.  The owner didn't have insurance and neither did she.  Her cheekbone was shattered and she couldn't afford to go to the doctor.  Her injury became infected and all of her upper teeth abscessed, so far, she has lost all but 3 teeth (and will probably lose those too).  And to make matters worse, she may be out of work soon.

(side note) AAWL (Arizona Animal Wildlife League) paid for Tinkerbelle's and Toby spay/neuter surgeries.  Dixie's surgery was paid by the foster family.  Dixie almost died during surgery because her uterus was so infected that she would have died within a month had she not been spayed.  These pups are up on our page thanks to the efforts of Gail Potts from AAWL.
